At Discovery Counseling Center, we’re committed to making mental health services accessible to everyone. We know that asking for help is a big step—and paying for therapy shouldn’t stand in the way. Thanks to generous support from our community, we offer a sliding scale, which means your session fees are based on what you can afford. Those who are able to pay the full fee help make it possible for others to receive care at a reduced cost. It’s one way our community cares for each other.
When you begin services, we’ll talk with you about your situation and find a fee that works for you—so you can focus on getting the support you need.

Contact Us
If you have been referred for services through SARB (Student Attendance Review Board) please note this on the contact form.
If you have been referred to us through the Alternative to Suspension Program (ASP), please call our office at (925) 837-0505.

The Intake Process
Our intake coordinator will contact you to go through a brief intake. During this conversation, we’ll ask a few general questions to understand what brings you—or your child or family—to counseling, gather basic contact information, and discuss our sliding scale fees. We will also ask you about your availability for scheduling sessions.
If you’re interested in one of our group therapy programs—such as grief support or senior groups—we’ll also provide information about upcoming start dates and availability during the intake.

Connecting With Your Therapist
Once the intake process is complete, your case will be assigned to a clinician. Please note that this assignment process may take up to 5–7 business days. The more flexibility you can offer in your availability the more likely we will be able to connect you with a clinician promptly.
Frequently Asked Questions: Sliding Scale & Financial Assistance
Do you offer financial assistance for counseling services?
Yes. We offer sliding scale fees based on your income and financial circumstances to help make therapy affordable for everyone.
Our sliding scale is supported by generous donations and grants from individuals, businesses, and community partners. Their contributions help cover the difference between what clients can pay and the actual cost of care.
How do I know if I qualify for the sliding scale?
Will I still receive the same quality of care if I’m paying a reduced fee?
Do I need to provide financial documents?
What if my financial situation changes?
We check in with all clients about their fee every six months to see if anything has changed. If you’re able to contribute more over time, increasing your fee helps us continue offering reduced-cost care to others in need. If your circumstances haven’t changed—or have become more challenging—we’ll continue to work with you.
These brief check-ins help ensure our sliding scale remains fair and sustainable, and that we can keep saying “yes” to those who reach out for help.
