Discovery Counseling Center of the San Ramon Valley was honored by the Danville Town Council with an official proclamation recognizing May 2026 as Mental Health Awareness Month in the Town of Danville. Executive Director Sumita Bhandari accepted the proclamation on behalf of the organization during a recent Town Council meeting.
This meaningful recognition highlights the growing importance of accessible, compassionate, and community-based mental health care throughout the San Ramon Valley and beyond.
For more than 55 years, Discovery Counseling Center has served children, teens, adults, couples, and families by providing affordable counseling services, school-based mental health support, community education, and clinical training programs. The organization remains deeply committed to ensuring that mental health care is available to all individuals regardless of financial circumstances or background.
The proclamation emphasized the importance of mental wellness in building healthier communities, improving quality of life, and supporting individuals and families through life’s challenges. It also recognized the collective responsibility shared by schools, healthcare providers, businesses, nonprofits, and local government agencies to promote mental health awareness and reduce stigma.
“We are incredibly grateful to the Town of Danville for this recognition,” said Sumita Bhandari, Executive Director of Discovery Counseling Center. “Mental health impacts every family and every community.
